Born August 13, 1927 in Troy, she was daughter of the late George and Gertrude Mallen Freemantle. Leona was the wife of the late Jack Thornton and Austin Serson. She is mother of John Thornton of Watervliet, James Thornton of Albany, Joseph Thornton of New Port Richey, Fla., Richard Thornton of Gillett, Wis., Austin Serson of Brunswick, Travis Serson of Ballston Spa, Michael Serson of Troy, Terry Serson, Debra Palmer, Nancy Marriner of Cohoes, Sandra Palmer of Schenectady, Pearl Butterfield, Tracy Serson of Cohoes and the late Wayne Serson; sister of Ella Slocum of Troy, Shirley Garmley of Watervliet, Muriel Ahrent of Stillwater, George and Robert Freemantle of Troy, Alfred O'Rourke of Waterford, the late Sally Lathers, Carrie Marlow, Georgianna Walsh and Marie Loeper. Also surviving is a cousin, Muriel Elden of Watervliet; a close friend, Donna Phillips of Schenectady, 36 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Newspaper clipping - Mr. William German passed away very suddenly last Thursday afternoon, aged 75 years. He was in Prattsville in the forenoon and was apparently in usual health. Soon after reaching home he lay down and a few moments passed away.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Brown & Shaver mortician parlor in Prattsville, Rev. W.L. Comstock rendered "Nearer My God to Thee" as a solo.
A large circle of relatives and friends were present, bringing several floral pieces. Mr. German is survived by his widow, one sister, Mrs. Ada Griffin, Kingston, a brother Henry, West Durham, and four children Mrs. Burr Decker, Blenhiem, Clarence German, Cooksburg, Velmore German, West Conesville, and Arthur, who is employed by Ward Kurau of North Settlement. Sad accident.-A blacksmith of the name of German, living in Westkill, was killed/ one day last
week by the kick of an ox while he was engaged in shoeing him. The ox broke the rope by
which he was tied, and gave him a blow in the abdomen from which - after lingering about two
days - he died. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his loss.

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Anne M. Osterhout of Kirby Road, died Monday, November 4, 2002 at home surrounded by her family. She was 77. Born on January 13, 1925 in Saratoga Springs, she was a daughter of the late Walter F. and Helene L. (Rozelle) Gries. Ms. Osterhout was a communicant of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church and was schooled at St. Clement's Elementary and St. Peter's High School in Saratoga Springs, and Columbia University in New York, N.Y. She worked as a medical technician at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany for many years. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters. Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra Bastiani and her husband Amos of Delmar and Connie Spass and her husband Paul of Alabaster, Ala.; her grandchildren, Michael Fabe and his wife Tina of Delmar, Kelly A. Spass of Alabaster, Ala. and Steven A. Spass and his wife Donna of Clifton Park; a great-grandson, Johnathan Fabe; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Desmond DelGiacco and Dr. Janet Gargiulo and the staff of Capital District Hematology Oncology Associates, along with Mary Ellen Schultz and the staff at the Community Hospice of Saratoga for their constant support and compassion in there time of need. ALBANY Helen A. Gries Donohue, 79, of the Ann Lee Nursing Home, Colonie, died Sunday at the Albany Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Donohue was born in Saratoga Springs, and attended St. Peter's Academy there. She was a member of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church.
She was the widow of George M. Donohue Jr., who died in 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Philip Donohue of Cortland and Michael Donohue of Saratoga Springs; one daughter, Mary Louise Shore of Saratoga Springs; two brothers, Walter F. Gries Jr. of Albany and Charles N. Gries of Schenectady; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave.
Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
Contributions may be made to charity.

Augusta Schmueler, wife of John Spannbauer, 101 Grove Street, died this morning at 5:35 o'clock in the Amsterdam City Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Germany July 3, 1858 and came to this country 57 years ago, making her home in this city ever since. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church and was active in church work when her health permitted.
Besides her husband Mrs. Spannbauer is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Douglas Chichester, Schenectady; three sons, Charles panton and Edward F. Spanbauer, Amsterdam and Frank C. COLONIE C. Earl Herchenroder, 67, of Colonie, a former Albany County official, died Monday at home.
Mr. Herchenroder was born in Albany and was a longtime Capital Region resident. He had attended schools in Colonie and Schenectady. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Mr. Herchenroder worked for New York Central Railroad before working as a self-employed contractor for 15 years, and worked for Sears for 20 years. He was a buildings superintendant for Albany County for eight years before retirement.
He was a member of the Guilderland Elks Lodge, the North Albany American Legion Post 1610 and the St. Francis de Sales Church Seniors.
Survivors include his wife, Roseann Levitto Herchenroder of Colonie; two daughters, Donna Olsen of Canaan and Dawn Klersy of Delmar; a son, Charles Herchenroder Jr. of Voorheesville; a sister, Betty Momrow of Colonie; a brother, Russell Herchenroder of Guilderland; and five grandchildren.
A service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., Albany, and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church on 1 Maria Drive in Loudonville.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

HUDSON -- Olin H. Herchenroder, 90, formerly of Delmar died on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Fireman's Home in Hudson. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Henry and Jeanette Kibbee Herchenroder. He resided in E. Berne, Glenmont and later Delmar. Mr. Herchenroder was a radio and television broadcast engineer retiring from WTEN in 1977. He repaired radios for the town of Bethlehem Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Pine Hills Taxi Company in Albany. Mr. Herchenroder was a life member of the Selkirk Fire Company #2. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Husband of the late Hazel C. Barbour Herchenroder; father of Lynne (Richard) Hummel of Glenmont, Judith (Gene) Sowell of Delta Junction, Alaska, Pamela (Frank) House of E. Berne and Sandra (Robert) Callaghan of Lake Clear, N.Y.; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany.
